Charley’s mum is called Basienka, although she’s better known as Bash.
Her parents met in Baghdad at the end of World War II. Joseph was a well decorated Polish officer and
Irena worked for the Red Cross; Irena had escaped from a Siberian labour camp where she had been sent by the Russians at age 14. She has written a book, 'The Red Beads', about her escape and war time
experiences. They emigrated to Finedon in Northamptonshire where Bash was born. Many of Bash's family still live in Poland.' She went to Bishop Stopford School and was sports captain in Nelson House.
After leaving school, she became a secretary and went on to work in a clothes and shoe shop in Kettering called Chloe’s. Fluent in both Polish and English, she has been married once before, having another daughter called Nicole. Her mum. Her grandfather was a major in the army. With a distant relative making it as a pro tennis player, she was also talented at racket sports. Although she enjoys watching golf, she admits to never having played the game. She enjoys travelling and has visited places like Thailand, US and Europe. Therefore, her perfect trips are abroad to watch Charley play golf!
