Kevin Theobald
Jon Davies
Age: Celebrated 50th birthday in 2005.

Golf Clubs: Priors Hall GC (1971 - 1982). Kettering GC (1982 - )

Theobald began as an assistant pro under former European Tour player Dick Kemp at Priors Hall Golf Club in the early 1970s.

Although he didn't win any major events, Theobald concentrated his playing career in Northamptonshire and the Midlands, claiming a hat-trick of Northants Assistant Pro Championships titles.

After 11 years at the Corby course, he decided to move down the road to Kettering Golf Club and concentrate more on teaching golf to others.

Theobald explained: "I gradually switched from playing to teaching because you have to dedicate a lot of time to practice when you are playing competitive golf and I just didn't have the time to continue doing that.

"Whether it's a lack of ability or a lack of opportunity, but not everyone makes it as a player. But you can still stay in the game and be useful as a coach and I found that I had an aptitude for coaching, more than playing.

"I wanted to play in tournaments, win The Open three times and do everything a young golfer wants to do. But I had my chance, and it didn't work out like that.

"I've now found that I enjoy practice because at least I'm out on the practice ground working on technique, albeit someone else's game.

"If you give up playing and teaching, all you are is a shop assistant. That's not why I'm involved in golf. I came into the sport to play golf, and failing that I want to teach it.

"I get more enjoyment out of watching players progress. I can put something back into the game now."
