| Charley entertains the Germans |

At the start of the fourth and final round of the German International Ladies Amateur Open, Charley was in third place six shots behind the leader Julie Wang (South Korea) and five behind Lucie Andre (France) the eventual winner. The best mainland European lady amateurs were in attendance at the Dusseldorf Golf Club course. It has out of bounds on 14 holes and is a series of hills and valleys making it one of the toughest courses in Europe. There are very few holes where the players can risk taking a driver from the tee, even on the par fives.
Despite playing steady golf from tee to green in the first three rounds, Charley struggled to come to terms with the very slow greens and had let the two leaders get a substantial lead on her.
Playing in the final three ball Charley matched the leaders shot for shot as she waited to see if they would start falling away. She was one shot under par after 10 holes, but still 5 shots behind the lead. With nothing to lose, and being one of the biggest hitters in the tournament, she decided to attack the course.
With the leaders playing conservatively, Charley entertained the large following of spectators as she launched a series of massive and risky drives from the tees. After another huge drive down the 14th, she was blocked out by a large tree in the middle of the fairway. With the ball above her feet and the green hidden away at the top of a hill, she played the shot of the day as she hit a long fade with a 7 iron around the tree to within six feet of the pin. The crowd were ecstatic and their cheers echoed around the course
Despite her aggression she finished a very creditable 5th for the tournament, but made many friends. The Germans loved her attitude, thanked her for a wonderfully entertaining afternoon and likened her to Seve Ballesteros. They insist that she returns for the same event next year.
